A year...in pictures.

Yesterday, I ordered a photo book (yes--in print, can you believe it??) that I have created over the last couple of weeks, titled "AMICHAI Year 1".  786 pictures, 140 page book, 12X12".  HUGE.  And these were just the best ofs!

It's been a year.  One whole year of Amichai.  It was meaningful to me to do this project...to be told again, in pictures, the story of our first year of parenthood...the eventful journey of our time with Amichai thus far.  At some point in the picture choosing process, I realized how important it was that we included pictures of the difficult parts of our journey...the birth, the MRI, the surgery, the days after surgery, CI activation day, etc etc.  It is the WHOLE of our journey together that has brought us to where we are today.  This year of greatest joy and challenge, and fear of unknown and acceptance and embracing of it, and love and laughter, and growth and learning, and expansion and empowerment has changed us as people.  Our perspective on the world, on parenting, on love....it has all been enlightened by our bright, loving little wide eyed boy.  As he has grown, we have grown.  Every day we know him and love him more, and as we journey with him, we know and love ourselves more as well.  He has given us gifts we never knew we could have, ones we never knew we wanted, and ones that have opened us in ways we didn't know were possible.  As I looked over each moment captured in pictures, I have never felt so grateful for a year of my life.   I profoundly respect the presence of our year 1 challenges bundled up with the millions of joyous and light moments--I wouldn't give up one aspect of it.

This has been the greatest year of our lives.  I am jittery with excitement thinking about Amichai Year 2.  What a ride.
